How to Use Todoist Templates

Todoist is by far the best task manager I have ever used, and it has some very powerful features such as labels, filters and many more. Another feature that Todoist offers is the ability to import and export your projects into a template, allowing you to share that checklist and also easily duplicate it.

You might be wondering what the use of this is - it allows you to import projects again and again, such as a travel checklist, and means that you don't have to make it each time. Another great use is sharing templates with your family, and many, many more. You can even export them as .cvs files and edit them in Excel, or export them as a web link to share to others.

Manage Your Subscriptions with Outflow

Many apps work on a subscription basis now, many of which are some of the largest and most popular apps and programs. However, one of the problems with app subscriptions is that it is quite difficult to track when subscriptions on various apps run out. I pay £0.79 a month for iCloud, which is a very low price, and I often forget about buying it. However, when I add my Evernote and Todoist Premium subscriptions, domain names and more, the price really adds up. It's difficult to track when all of these things expire, as they are all based across different platforms, with different expiration dates, and different prices. It's a struggle to get on top of all of these different subscriptions.

Outflow is a great solution to this problem - you can easily add apps, and then see how long until you need to pay for that subscription again. Outflow allows you to get notified based around your subscriptions renewal date, so you won't forget to pay it again. Outflow has many more features, and is a great choice if you want an app to track your expenses.

Evernote Adds a New Feature That Automates Taking Meeting Notes

Evernote has just released a new public beta feature for Evernote Web, which allows you to quickly and easily take meeting notes that are pulled from your Google Calendar, and these notes are automatically filled in with location, time, description and participant information from your calendar.

Connect Evernote to your Google Calendar, and it'll find your next events. You'll be able to click on an event that is coming up soon, and that will make an automatic meeting note using the Evernote Meeting note template.

The new note will have the event title, and below that a link to the Google Calendar event. Evernote automatically detects the location of the event, as well as the description and participants. I think this is really cool, as it saves you writing it all down. You then have the notes section, where you take the meeting notes, and next steps where you can plan what you are going to add next.

If you don't have a calendar event up soon, you can just click on 'Blank meeting note' to get the blank template.

This is an awesome new Evernote feature, and I hope it makes it out of beta. It allows easy meeting notes to be taken, and I think lots of people would like it a lot.

You can sign up to Evernote here.

Getting the Most out of Todoist Filters

Todoist has many powerful features, and filters are one of them. Filters allow you to create custom filters that filter down tasks according to what you set. You can set filters to only show tasks with labels, or to show tasks with a certain date. You could think of them as saved searches - if you use a certain search over and over again, you could save it as a filter.

I’ll give an introduction on filters, then go into some examples and how I use them in this post.

Evernote for Students: Sharing Notes for Revision

All my notes are taken in Evernote, and many of my friends also take their notes in Evernote. Evernote is great - you can share notes, and discuss them in work chat. A great way for students to use Evernote is to share revision notes in a shared notebook, which you share with your other classmates and allow them to view and edit your revision notes.

In this post, I'll go through how I share revision notes, and how I make it easy to navigate and for others to find and use them.

Evernote | 4 Tips & Tricks for Students - Francesco D'Alessio

Hello Nerdy Student readers!

Organising is something that most college and high schools don’t get, but seeing as you are here, you obviously want to start getting organised for your college experience. Being a student can be tough with lots of coursework, exams and pressure from lecturers. So in this feature, we’re going to help you organise your Evernote content.

My name’s Francesco D’Alessio. I’m a student in the UK covering productivity apps and resources on YouTube. I discovered Evernote in 2013 when I started high-school. I had some fantastic success with it.

In this video we’ll run over some fundamental ways to organising your Evernote account. There are the tips and tips mentioned in the video:

1. Create an overview

2. Capture audio from lectures

Save entire lectures just using audio — perfect for revision.

3. Create a daily journal

Zen out and relax by spending some time in the morning expressing your feelings.

4. Store important documents in Evernote

Save useful documents inside of Evernote for the moments you need them.

Thank you so much for reading and watch my new series: Evernote for Students on YouTube for weekly features on how to expand your Evernote usage at college.

Thank you to Giacomo and the Nerdy Student team for having me here.

The Nerdy Student is now using Disqus for comments!

I've recently added Disqus to be the commenting method on the blog. I did this for a few reasons:

  • Disqus looks better than the standard Blogger commenting. It runs smoothly, and is much easier to use.
  • Conversations flow easier on Disqus. It's quicker to post, and it's easier to reply to people.
  • Better guest posting.
  • Larger community.
I hope you enjoy the new changes - more will be coming soon!

Opener: Open Links in Apps

We all know the reality of opening links in iOS - its difficult to open links in the app that you want to open that link in, not the app that iOS wants you to open it in. For example, if you use Tweetbot instead of Twitter, there is no way to set that as the default Twitter app. If you want to open links to Twitter you find across the internet, you can only open it in Twitter. The same happens with opening YouTube links in ProTube, instead of the official app and so on.

Opener fixes this - its a handy app that allows you to open links in the apps that you want, not the apps that iOS wants you to open them in. If you find that you want to view links you find around the web in the apps that you use, Opener is for you.

My Favourite Apps of 2016

2016 has been a pretty big year - I’ve found that my iPad has been replacing my Windows laptop, and that I’ve discovered that I can do lots of things on my iPad that I thought that I wasn’t able to. It’s become my primary device - I often find myself doing my homework on it, as well as programming and even gaming on it.

As I've been using my iPad more, the apps and workflows that I've used have been refined, and I'd like to say perfected, but I'm always finding new and quicker ways to do things. I find myself only using my computer for blog posts, when I want to do a lot of programming, and for occasional gaming. My iPad has become my primary platform, and it certainly meets up to the role well.

Most of this list is iOS apps, but quite a few of them are Mac and Windows apps too. The web apps at the end work on any platform.
